‘Practical Market Insights for Your Product’

This product fact sheet provides information for developing country exporters planning to enter the European shapewear market. Technical innovations and socio-cultural factors will continue to drive growth in the shapewear sector. As economic recovery gains momentum, Western European countries battling high obesity rates present key market opportunities for shapewear. However, competition is strong; DC exporters are encouraged to offer innovative products in line with European style trends.

Product Definition Shapewear, or foundation garments, are undergarments designed to help mold or hold the body to a certain form and give it a smooth appearance. Products may have enhancement or corrective functions, and are typically worn with a specific outfit. Common shapewear products include:

  •  Bras

Quality:
The main contributor to the quality of a shapewear garment is functionality. This means that the garment performs as expected; it hides flaws and streamlines the silhouette to give the illusion of a slimmer shape, and/or enhances one’s assets as marketed. Factors contributing to shapewear performance include:

o Quality of fabric

  •  Strong, thick, and elastic; grips the body, and does not create lumps or bumps underneath outerwear
  •  Durable: the shaping function lasts throughout the day, and the garment has a reasonably long lifecycle
  •  Breathable, comfortable and cool; safe to wear all day long
o Fabric content
  •  Appropriate fabric content for the part of the body the garment is trying to correct or enhance. For example, for control bottoms, a Nylon/Lycra blend with Lycra content of 10% or more is appropriate; however, for a control camisole, a cotton/Lycra knit blend of 90-95% cotton & 5% Lycra may be more comfortable o Overall construction
  •  Seams are smooth or invisible
  •  Hems stay in place – no rolling up or riding up
Labelling:
The following information will generally be found on the label in clothes:
  •  Care symbols
  •  Composition (Fibre content by percentage)
  •  Size
  •  Country of origin (Made in)
  •  Further information, such as eco-labels, labels for sustainable cotton, if applicable Materials: The key factors to consider when choosing fabric for shapewear garments are functionality, and comfort.
  •  Nylon, Lycra and Cotton are commonly used. Lycra can provide the smoothing effect, but must be used in combination with a knit fabric, like cotton or nylon that stretches

Considerations for action:
DC exporters should keep up with the very latest sculpting fabrics and shaping technology in order to create innovative, functional, and comfortable garments.

Google Search Engine Optimizer (SEO) Tips

Google Search Engine Optimizer (SEO) Tips

 Introduction
As many of us web developers already know, Google is rated by many as the number one search engine in the world. We personally know that our websites get about 90% of their search engine traffic direct from Google searches. Getting indexed by Google can be a pain, but getting highly placed rankings for specific keywords seems to be the nut that not many web developers without SEO (search engine optimization) experience or seo training can crack. Today we’re going to give you an informative primer on the basics of search engine optimization techniques -- many of which we use everyday to optimize our websites and stay ahead of our competitors. 4 Steps to Better Rankings

Step 1. Choosing The Right Keywords Choosing the right keywords to base your site optimization around is an important first step. General or generic keywords are usually not the best approach, and sometimes it's better to be a little more specific and focus on niche keywords relating to your product or service. For example, let's talk about www.devedit.com -- DevEdit is our WYSIWYG HTML editing component that drops into browser-based applications. The problem is, there are a LOT of WYSIWYG HTML editors, but how can we get DevEdit to appear in Google's top 10 rankings? Well, let's see. Trying to optimize for the keyword "HTML" alone would be a tough task, as it's too general. There are HTML editors, HTML tutorials, HTML articles, etc. We need to be more specific, which means: Targeting a more suitable market that is looking for a content editing solution Competing with fewer websites targeting the same keywords Optimizing for keywords that people actually use when performing searches Targeting a suitable market will depend on your website, as well as the products and services you offer. Try to be specific with your keywords, and remember that people no longer use single keyword search phrases - the average search phrase contains 3-5 related words. For example, if you're optimizing for a web development site and you're located in Sydney, Australia, use keywords such as "web development Sydney" or "web development services Australia". To find out how many websites are competing with your keywords -- either intentionally or not -- simply do a search on Google and note down how many results are returned. In our case, for "online html editor", we're competing with 9,080,000 sites. The more sites that are competing for your keywords, the harder it will be to get on the front page. Alternatively, to get a rough indication of how many people are actually searching for the keywords you want to optimize your site for, use the Overture search suggestion tool. It's not exact, and doesn't measure Google searches, but it does give a very good estimate. The Overture search suggestion tool will also provide you with a list of similar keywords, based on the keywords you enter. This can be a great way to find other keywords to optimize your site for. As a rough guideline, try to optimize every page on your site for a different search phrase. Each search phrase should contain 2 to 3 highly targeted keywords. Step 2. Your URL and Title Tag Two of the most determining factors in Google's ranking are your domain name and title tag. For example, a domain name such as: http://www.web-development-sydney.com will generally get ranked higher than http://www.companyname.com, assuming that they had identical keywords and page content. For some of us, keywords in the domain name look too unprofessional, and we've already registered our domain, so it’s too late to change. An alternative -- and also a useful tactic -- is to add your keywords into the names of your pages, such as http://www.companyname.com/web-development-services.html Your title tag is equally as important as your domain name. Using keywords in your title tag can improve your Google ranking significantly. Trying to achieve a balance of professionalism with keyword density in the title tag however is sometimes a little more difficult. Going back to our example of a web development company earlier, a good title tag would be: "Company name provides professional affordable web development services in Sydney Australia." Usually, the closer to the front of your title tag the keywords are placed, the better. Step 3. H1 Tags and Keyword Density tags seem to have been depreciated by stylesheets these days, and are not used as often as they used to be. The Google ranking algorithm dictates that if you're using a tag, then the text in between this tag must be more important than the content on the rest of the page. Here's a quick example: Google sees this text as more important ... than this text By default, H1 tags aren't the prettiest in terms of formatting, so using a CSS style to override the default look is usually a good idea: H1 { color: blue; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 16px } Sprinkling keywords throughout your page content can also improve your sites keyword density. Keyword density simply means the ratio of optimized keywords to the rest of the content on your page. It is usually expressed as a percentage, and should be between 7% and 10% for each page on your site. Don't overdo the keyword density, however, but don't overlook it either. A good example would be: Before: Company name provides web design and site management services to our clients. After: Company name provides web development services to the Sydney region in Australia Notice how we use the keywords more efficiently the second time around? Step 4. Links, Links and More Links And this leads us to the toughest part of the Google SEO process -- back-links. Back links are websites that link directly to your website. The general principal is the more back links you have, the higher your pages will be ranked, as your website must be good if so many other sites are linking back to it. If you run a web development company, then adding a simple link to the bottom of each of your client's websites, such as: Web development by Company Name ... (With your clients permission of course) can help boost your back links, which will help boost your ranking position in searches. Submitting your site to dmoz.org, Yahoo! and other directories is also an important step to increase the number of sites linking back to yours. Do remember however, that setting up back links takes time. I would recommend emailing 5-10 websites each and every day to request back-links or partnership links (keeping in mind that the sites contacted should be relevant but not competitive) e.g. - If you sell chocolate, partnering with a company that sells Roses may just be a good idea. Within a couple of weeks, you should have a good 100 or so sites happily linking back to yours! ConclusionGoogle can be one tough search engine to crack. Hopefully, however, in this article we’ve provided you with enough basic tips to get started optimizing both yours and your clients website.

  Crop insurance scenario in Banagladesh

                                                     Definition:
Crop insurance: Crop insurance is a valuable tool to protect against financial risks stemming from crop damage due to unforeseeable hazards – droughts, floods, pests, and so on. The mechanics are quite simple – a farmer can take out an insurance policy on his expected yield of crops, and pay a fixed premium every month to the insurance company. If bad weather results in under production, or destroys the farmer’s crops, the insurance policy pays out, ensuring that the farmer is protected financially and is not left with very little income for the year.
Livestock insurance:
Livestock insurance mainly refers to the insurance of horses and cattle. This insurance provide cover against death of animals, like bulls, buffaloes, cows and heifers, arising as a result of accident, disease, parturition or pregnant condition, as the case may be.

Present scenario of crop and livestock in Bangladesh:
Given Bangladesh’s reliance on its agricultural sector, and its propensity for natural disasters, crop insurance schemes can play a crucial role in stabilizing and promoting food production while reducing the likelihood of sudden spikes in rural poverty.
Although the concept of crop insurance has been around for decades, its applications in most developing countries fail due to lack of planning and implantation. Crop insurance was implemented in Bangladesh in 1989 as a government program, but was shut down in 1995 after massive losses. Recently, BRAC has been proactive in its efforts to reintroduce insurance for farmers, and the government is also planning to restart the program.
There are many potential missteps to the success of such programs. Insurance works by spreading individual risks across a large pool of buyers. Because of Bangladesh’s numerous rivers and flat geography, it becomes harder to spread these risks – when flooding occurs, a large segment of the cultivated land would likely be affected, triggering payouts that may cripple the insurance providers. Raising the premiums can prevent this problem, but finding a rate that is not cost-prohibitive to farmers is a matter of detailed analysis and research.

Livestock is a growing sub-sector. Its shared of agricultural GDP represented by livestock in Bangladesh rose from 7.6% in 1974-75 to 12.9% in 1998-99, mainly due to growth of the poultry sub-sector and to a lesser extent the dairy sub-sector, and has been estimated at nearly 16% in 2004 (GOB, 2004). This share is predicted to rise to 19.9% by the year 2020. The growth rate in GDP in 2003 for livestock was the highest of any sub-sector at 4.5%, compared to 3.2% for crops and 2.3% for the fisheries sub-sector. These changes have been promoted by a rapid growth in demand for livestock products due to increases in income, rising population numbers, and urban growth. This phenomenon has been referred to as the Livestock Revolution. The importance of livestock production has increased in Bangladesh as witnessed by the growth of the sub-sector over the last two decades and the contribution to employment in the country. In 2005, the numbers of livestock in Bangladesh are estimated to be 22.6 million cattle, 1.06 million buffalo, 18.4 million goats, 2.38 million sheep, 164.1 million fowls, and 13.5 million ducks (DLS, 2005). Poultry and dairy farming has certain specific advantage over crops, fisheries and forestry. They require less land, least influenced by seasonal change, and the supply of animal origin food is disproportionately low against high demand. The current intake per capita of animal protein in Bangladesh is less than 2g per day, against the FAO recommendation of 28g per day. According to Bangladesh Economic Review (2004), the growth rate in GDP in 2003-2004 for livestock was the highest of any sub-sector at 4.48%, compared to 2.88% for crops and 2.23% for fisheries sub-sector. The high costs of fresh milk production can be attributed to low yield and high feed costs. Average yields are only 2.0 liters per cow per day, although there is some regional variation. Among commercial dairy farmers, average milk production ranges from 3.5 liters per day to a high of 7.2 liters per day.
The branded feed available in Bangladesh is of unknown quality and extremely expensive. Several small animal feed milling plants are operated by the Department of Livestock Services (DLS). Community Livestock and Dairy Development Project (CLDDP) of Grameen Fisheries & Livestock Foundation of Bangladesh, BMPCUL, Non Government Organization (NGOs), and the private sector. Most of these mills have a capacity ranging from 7 to 10 tons per day. Some 4 percent of the milk is processed by the organized sector comprising some 10 dairy processing units. About 15 per cent of the milk produced is consumed by the producer families and 81 per cent goes to the traditional sector. Locally produced liquid milk accounts for 12.8 percent of the formal market. The rest (87.2 percent) consists of imported milk powder. The importance of livestock production has increased in Bangladesh as witnessed by the increase in number of livestock over the last few decades and the contribution to employment in the country .
